20th June 2006
Windsurfing: Pevensey Bay Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: F4-5 Surf / Sea State: flattish Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: windsurfing weather Max Speed: 25 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered:
Another late(ish) pm showing in the bay, as gutted says, it was 6.5m / 100
ltr weather ... so as the 7.0m GTX and Nik Baker 40cm fin have been needing
mating up to the Manta 75 for far too long now, their time arrived .... It
wasn't flat so not ideal conditions, but to be fair it wasn't that lumpy
either ... managed an indicated 25 knots on the Navman M300 but I'm having
some doubts about accuracy of the unit.
I'd also rigged my 5.6m Remedy & Tabou 3S 97 and once I felt wind was
enough to use it, I reset speeds on the GPS and after a while showed 21
knots max in marginal 5.6m weather before it dropped off and left me with
the fun task of stuffing back upwind against the current too. I happened to
glance down at the gps and had to give it a double take as it showed an
indicated max speed of 37 knots .... technical term would be a 'spike' or
similar as I can't imagine I came even close to 37 knots, although on the
Manta it felt way quicker than 25 knots ... bizarre
Had I rigged the 6.4m Remedy for the 3S I'd have enjoyed that part of the
session more, but the Manta 75 with the 7.0m GTX blasting was superb fun,
and it all worked real nice with the Nik Baker 40cm slalom fin ... happy
with that
I'm just loving those Tabou boards
